Under the pedestal upon which sits the likes of SXSW and Coachella are a few smaller American festivals which may go unnoticed. But The Governors Ball NYC Music Festival has compiled a 2013 line-up that is going to bring them out of the shadow. Kanye West, Kings of Leon, Nas, Grizzly Bear, The xx, Kendrick Lamar and Animal Collective are going show their faces on the Randall’s Island stage. Joining them will be Young the Giant, Beirut, Bloc Party, DFA 1979, Crystal Castles, Azealia Banks, Yeasayer, Local Natives, Best Coast, Dirty Projectors, Dinosaur Jr., Twin Shadow, Japandroids, Fucked Up, Freddie Gibbs and Erykah Badu, to name an impressive fucking few. In its third year, the New York City festival will be taking place from June 7th-9th. The lineup announcement came with a video worth watching. It focuses on ridiculing Wall Street’s Elite with the help of fake money and a fancy car. Check that out here. Tickets go on sale on January 25th on the festival website, where you can also find the full lineup.
