In a recent posting on the band’s CASH Music site, Kristin Hersh, frontwoman for college rock heroes Throwing Muses, revealed the group had called time out on their activities largely due to the fact that they couldn’t make a living out of being a band. According to Hersh, the Muses “could no longer afford to work” due to the cost of recording and touring, and that “Happily or sadly, we were at the top of our game when we made the decision to stop”. But, fans of the band now have a reason to be cheerful, as – in a move not dissimilar to that of Michael Gira’s Swans that we recently reported – they have taken to the internet, using CASH Music to solicit donations from the public towards recording the new songs that Hersh has been working on. You can find out more about CASH Music, a open-source nonprofit company, founded by Hersh herself here, and don’t be shy to donate, as I for one want to hear those new jams!
