Prince Making Headlines: Album Included with Newspaper Purchase

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Prince is helping out the little guy, again. In the age of technology when all news is a free click away, the musician is releasing his second straight album by way of free distribution in a couple of European print mediums. In 2007 Prince released Planet Earth in the Mail on Sunday newspaper, and this time at least four publications have signed up to be a part of the release of his new album 20Ten. Two and a half million copies are reportedly set for release in England’s Daily Mirror, Scotland’s Daily Record, Belgium’s Het Nieuwsblad and the German edition of Rolling Stone magazine. The first three will include the album with purchase of the July 10th newspaper, and the latter with their July 22nd issue. The British papers will also have ticket giveaways. Weekend comics and a free Prince album, doesn’t get much better than that.

New Prince Song Airs on Radio

Listen up. Prince is back, and he’s crazier than ever! Earlier on today, Twin Cities based radio station 89.3 The Current broadcasted a new track by the famously flamboyant and eccentric singer entitled Cause and Effect. Expect wailing crowd noises, searing guitar solos, slap bass and an acoustic middle eight. All in a day’s work for Prince. Stream it here.

Prince Pens Original Song for Vikings NFC Championship Game

Prince may be the last person you would expect to pen a football team song. But according to MTV, he has done just that. It turns out that the Twin Cities musician, whose career has seen him go through myriad name changes to escape the confines of the Warner/Chappell publishing deal that expired in 2000, has some serious Minneapolis pride. The Minnesota Vikings, who will face the New Orleans Saints in the finals of the NFC Championship on Sunday will have the song, entitled Purple and Gold propelling them on to victory, although unfortunately there is no word on Prince actually performing the song at the game. Now that, my friends, would be awesome!

OK Go and give Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky a whirl. The album is a mixed bag of supposed beguiling popiness, but there are a few interlopers. The mid-section tracks manage to stick to the same vein the four piece is known for, Prince-Queen-influenced catchy pop. (more…)

Trent Reznor Sheds Some Tears and Trashes Prince & Weezer

Since that faithful day not too long ago when Trent Reznor announced that the upcoming NIN tour will be the last, fans have craved more of an explanation. With that in mind Trent agreed to take part in a web cam interview detailing some answers to the end of NIN. Via a creepy hotel room in Florida, sporting eyes filled with tears Reznor explained, “For my own mental health I need to put more effort into being stationary and really trying to make Nine Inch Nails a precious thing. Nine Inch Nails is not done putting out music of some sort but we are done touring.” The surprising intimacy of the video is quite captivating and provides some insight into the emotion behind the decision. Reznor also speaks of his recent talks with TV On the Radio’s Dave Sitek, and how the two have discussed collaborating together on what will no doubt be an impressive release to hear. (more…)
