This isn’t just some cover band. There is something distinctly unique and refreshing about Nouvelle Vague. Hearing someone singing your favorite songs back to you when they come from a different linguistic group is bizarre, but invigorating at the same time. (more…)

Rockstars Stepping Up As College Lecturers?
10.30.09If any mysterious, brooding characters are found lurking in your college hallways, fear not, as they may be there to teach??? Yup, it’s the attack of the lecturing Rockstars, with Jack White dropping knowledge at Dublin’s Trinity College on such “congruent” topics as Bob Dylan and Britney Spears; it seems feathered coiffeur regular Patrick Wolf wanted in on the action. The Goth-pop lip gloss whore will float through the legendary Oxford Union debate hall with a mouthful on November 10th. And don’t think only White and Wolf have dipped their toes in the learning pool, as a list of past lecturers includes Peter Hook of Joy Division/New Order, English band Mystery Jets, and of course for diversity, the President of Kosovo. Hm… Like some sort of weird reality show.

Clash, Blur, Bowie, Rolling Stones Album Covers Enshrined as Postage Stamps
10.16.09My dream has long been to send a fan letter, through the old fashioned postal service, to David Bowie. The only thing that has stopped me is that that no stamp has ever been able to properly convey my appreciation of him as an artist. Until now. Postage stamp collector site Norvic Philatelics has broken the news that ten classic album covers will be immortalized as UK postage stamps this January. Now I can tell David Bowie how much I respect his work, and my letter will arrive with the cover of The Rise and Fall Of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars affixed to the envelope. I’m sure he will love it. The other nine album covers poised to take the leap into postage are: Pink Floyd’s The Division Bell, Coldplay’s A Rush of Blood to the Head, Blur’s Parklife, New Order’s Power, Corruption & Lies, the Rolling Stones’ Let It Bleed, Primal Scream’s Screamadelica, Led Zeppelin’s IV, Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells, and The Clash’s London Calling. Come January 7th all will be available through the British Post.

New Order Members Take On Some Blur For A New Project
06.15.09Rumours of New Order being officially broken up have been circulating since late 2007, with confirmation recently coming in the form of a newly formed band titled Bad Lieutenant. The new digs include all but one founding New Order member, including Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris and Phil Cunningham, but there’s a new up at bat in place of Peter Hook, and the current slugger is none other than Blur’s bassist Alex James. Reports suggest that the outfit as already cut a record that should see the light of an October day, while also planning to tour late 2009 following James’ string of Blur related reunion dates.

Peter Hook Speaks On The Haçienda Club… A Book Too Hot To Handle
06.09.09Peter Hook of New Order and Joy Division fame has spilled the beans on notoriously debaucherous Manchester club, The Haçienda. In a new book entitled Haçienda: How Not to Run a Club, co-written with biographer for New Order & Joy Division Claude Flowers, Hook goes into some juicy details about the occurrences and gritty laced goings on at the well-known spot. Reports say that a lawyer was commissioned to scour the book and extract issues that may cause a problem following the books release. The letter of report from the lawyer includes notes such as “Check that XXXXX did use a lot of Nazi stuff. It looks as if it is very much a matter of record.”, “XXXXXX wielding a machete – check that this can be proved but it looks as if this may have been admitted in an interview.”, or perhaps the simple mention of “Check about the drill story.” Does anyone else feel as though this book may have to be bound in black leather and kept behind the velvet curtain at the special book store?
