There’s a new rap act out of Cape Town, South Africa called DIE ANTWOORD, which translates from Afrikaans to The Answer. The group, whose members have awesome names like Ninja, Yo-Landi Vi$$er and DJ Hi-Tek, sing in a mix of English and Afrikaans, and integrate parts of Zef, a slang term for a very specific South African style. Interested yet? Check out their website for a fully integrated concept of their web page design and the video for their single Enter The Ninja. Venture into the “Secret Chamber” or read their bios in the “About” section for an in-depth and detailed look at these bizarre characters. Whether through the cover art for their album $O$, their coarse lyrics or song titles like Wat Kyk Jy (literally: What you looking at?) and Rich Bitch, DIE ANTWOORD emerge as eccentric and definitely weird. But be forewarned: don’t take this kooky trio seriously for anything other than their entertainment value, they’re definitely dripping with satire. Be sure to catch them at Montreal’s Le National on July 21st, 2010 to watch as hilarity ensues.
Genre: Rap
Latest Album: $O$
For Fans Of: M.I.A., Major Lazer, Spank Rock, Basement Jaxx

The night was filled with words of knowledge and rings of wisdom as California’s melodi-core council Thrice hoisted up Montreal’s Le National to near incredulous heights. (more…)

The New Pornographers had Le National eating out of the palms of their hands last night with their exultant melodies… pics and review on the way.
Always full of energy, New York’s Matt and Kim have decided to put some of it to good use and have thrown together a lengthy North American tour for the fall. Three Canadian dates cracked the list and, lucky us, Montreal is one of them. For a little pre-Halloween fun, the pop duo will be visiting Le National on October 30th. The word on the street is that these two work a crowd incredibly so you can expect lots of singing, dancing and probably the most hipster moshpit you’ve ever been a part of. The tour also slides through Toronto and Vancouver before ending in November. See below for a list of all their stops. (more…)

When you think of country music it’s hard not to think of losing your wife, your house and your dog. It’s difficult to brush aside the visuals of trucks and mullets and American flags. But when you listen to Hank Williams III & Assjack, all of that stereotypical garbage is instantly replaced with buckets of ass-kicking attitude. (more…)
It’s gonna take at least a week to recover from the alcohol abuse but last night’s sold out Hank Williams III & Assjack party was cool enough to miss work for. How can one man be so Bad-Ass? More a comin’ yer way!
