Cage the Elephant’s Matthew Schultz and cornershopstudios tucked into a pocket of La Tulipe’s bowels as thoughts of love, emotions and loss filled the Montreal afternoon.
Question: What makes you wicked?
Answer: The fact that I’m a human.

Question: Favorite word?
Answer: Love

Question: Throughout your career thus far, what has commonly been the elephant in the room?
Answer: There’s a lot we don’t talk about. Things that plague our minds can be very broad.

Question: What could send a man into Perfect Confusion?
Answer: Being too wrapped up in emotions. I sometimes base too many decisions on emotion. We should all learn to use our minds and hearts.

Question: Live as a failure or die as a loser?
Answer: You can’t quite escape either. You can’t gain without losing.

Everybody was on the move last night at La Tulipe while RJD2 played that funky music. Too many were just a-pushin’ and a-shovin’, but most were grooving to the spectral sounds spiraling out of stacks of gear in expert hands. Words and pictures are on the way.

The hype surrounding San Diego’s The Soft Pack has been up until recently, mostly due to their “controversial” former name The Muslims and the EP they put out under that name in March 2009. Now armed with a fresh new moniker, the band has recently released their debut self-titled LP, from which has sprung the two videos C’mon and Answer to Yourself. It seems the previously generated buzz around them has not died since it’s been a busy start to 2010 for the middle of the road indie rockers. In January, they drove around L.A. in FYF’s veggie powered bus to offer 10 shows in 1 day. Last month their album came out and the quartet had an opening slot for Babyshambles at the London KOKO. Soon The Soft Pack will embark on a North American tour – including a stop at Montreal’s La Tulipe on April 6th – shortly after they’re done with next week’s SXSW performances.
