Like all good old fashioned rock bands, Foo Fighters are ready to throw the pianos and violins (and maybe a few TVs, who knows?) out the window, and concentrate on just rockin’ out pure and simple. In a recent interview with the BBC, Dave Grohl the band’s leader spoke of his desire for “This [next] one, I just want it to be a 10.” Work will apparently begin appropriately enough, in Grohl’s garage in September on the slew of material that the multi-instrumentalist wrote during the band’s last tour. On his relationship with Butch Vig – producer of Nirvana’s 1991 classic Nevermind - Grohl is excited, stating, “It’s the first album the two of us have made together in 20 years,” Grohl said of Vig. “There’s something that Butch does that helps a song become a bigger song. At this point, I just want to rock.” The prospect of the Foos returning to rockier material is definitely an exciting one, despite being a credible writer of ballads and suchlike, kicking out the fucking jams has probably always shown Grohl’s talents at their best. Playing drums for recent project and supergroup Them Crooked Vultures probably will have helped get him in the mood too!
