Rewind to 1995. Columbia was due to release an album of unreleased and rare tracks donated by artists including Beastie Boys, Rage Against the Machine and Superchunk to help publicize the alleged wrongful imprisonment of Leonard Peltier, convicted of murdering two FBI agents in a 1975 shootout at the Jumping Bull ranch in Grand Forks, Dakota. For reasons unclear the album was never released, but now a former employee of the label is making the songs available for download. The so-called Exiled in the Land of the Free record is available to download for free here, and as this is not a release that has been sanctioned by Columbia, the music may not be around for long, so head on over there if you’d like to hear any of the following: (more…)
