Holy shit! You know what happens when a certain Icelandic singer and French director get together, right? Some of the best music videos ever, that’s what. So it will come as pretty damned exciting news to fans of the two artists that at this year’s SXSW Film Festival, Michel Gondry revealed that he was planning a new project with Björk. Said Gondry, “We have a very ambitious project, a sort of scientific musical. …[It's a movie], but maybe more for museums. Like a 40 minute IMAX project in 3D.” Nice.

Pavement and Massive Attack confirmed headliners as Sasquatch! Music Festival reveals lineup
02.16.10Sasquatch! Music Festival, held annually at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington, is once again getting into gear to throw down its unique blend of music and comedy over the weekend of May 29-31. Past headliners have included Beck, Björk, Nine Inch Nails, and R.E.M., but this year it will be the turn of the recently reformed Pavement (for which the number of excuses not to see is happily getting smaller!) to headline one day of the festival, along with Vampire Weekend, My Morning Jacket and Massive Attack. It’s sounding pretty decent already, but becomes an altogether more tantalizing prospect when one looks at some of the other bands slated to play. Some of the highlights (whose quality may actually have you gasping for air) include: MGMT, The National, lcd soundsystem, Band of Horses, Ween, Tegan and Sara, Broken Social Scene, Passion Pit, Public Enemy, She & Him, The New Pornographers, The Hold Steady, The xx, Dirty Projectors, No Age, Drive-By Truckers, Kid Cudi, The Mountain Goats, Quasi, Camera Obscura, Midlake, Caribou, Girls, WHY?, Japandroids, Wale, YACHT, Cymbals Eat Guitars, The Very Best, and Neon Indian. On the comedy front, former The Daily Show correspondent Rob Riggle and Craig Robinson of The Office will keep festival-goers chuckling away. Fashion Genius Alexander McQueen Dies
02.11.10British fashion designer Alexander McQueen passed away at the age of 40. The innovative talent was pronounced dead on arrival by paramedics who found him early morning at his residence in London. Rumors point to a possible suicide and authorities have ruled out foul play, but McQueen’s publicists have yet to confirm the cause of death. McQueen has dressed frontwomen like Björk, Courtney Love and Karen O. You might have noticed Lady Gaga sporting McQueen’s spring 2010 lobster-claw shoes in her Bad Romance music video. “McQueen influenced a whole generation of designers. His brilliant imagination knew no bounds as he conjured up collection after collection of extraordinary designs,” Alexandra Shulman, the editor of British Vogue, once said of the fashion genius. Björk Contributes New Song To Finnish Flick
11.16.09If you don’t know what a Moomins is, you are way out of the loop in regards to Finnish children’s films. These hippo-esque creatures are the brain spawn of Finnish author Tove Jansson. Icelandic national treasure Björk likes these stop-motion characters so much that she is writing a song for the Moomins’ upcoming movie Moomins and the Comet Chase. The Comet Song, as it is so fittingly called, was penned by Björk and her collaborator buddy Sjón. Although we might not get the chance to be dragged by our offspring to see the Moomins in theaters in the UK or North America, the film premieres in Finland in August or September 2010.

Damon Albarn Possible Olympic Ceremony Director
09.24.09After Björk opened the Olympics in Athens in 2004, Beijing threw down with a horde of drummers. Your turn, London. What’s it going to be? What sort of one up-manship can we expect? How about a whole mess of cartoon apes rocking out? Yes, it seems like a far outside chance, but its possible if Damon Albarn is involved in the opening ceremonies in 2012. Reports for UK news source The Independent are saying Blur frontman and Gorillaz co-mastermind is “a leading contender” to become the artistic director of the 2012 Olympics. The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games has begun preliminary discussions with Albarn. After providing the animation and music for the BBC’s coverage of the games in Beijing, Albarn and co-Gorillaz mate Jamie Hewlett have put together a little international sports coverage experience. Load them up with massive screens, copious amounts of fireworks, and an embarrassingly large operations budget, and sit back and watch the world’s collective jaw drop.
