Ben Gibbard & Jay Farrar Collaborate For Kerouac
08.14.09Ben Gibbard of Death Cab For Cutie and Jay Farrar of Son Volt have joined forces to create a batch of tracks inspired by the Jack Kerouac novel Big Sur. The pair has been working on the songs since 2007 with Big Sur’s text as the tracks’ lyrics. The creation will be featured in an upcoming documentary on the legendary author titled One Fast Move Or I’m Gone: Kerouac’s Big Sur, which will see daylight on October 20th, the 40th anniversary of the writer’s death. Aside from providing the tunes Gibbard and Farrar will appear in the film alongside Patti Smith, Tom Waits and Sam Shepard. The album is destined to be launched as a standard record, a CD/DVD combo, or a special edition print, complete with a forty page insert and a copy of Kerouac’s Big Sur.
