Concerning the band’s US popularity versus their European fame, The Killers front man Brandon Flowers has recently stated that he is striving to surpass bands like Led Zeppelin and Nirvana, saying, “With this last album Day & Age there’s been a noticeable shift but we’re still nowhere near where we are in Europe, in America people are still so obsessed with Led Zeppelin and Nirvana, those sorts of bands — nobody else is allowed to grow. KYLESA’s genesis may have been back in 2001 but the Savannah five-piece has recently come into the spotlight following the release of their latest album, Static Tensions. This fourth record has been collecting tremendously positive reviews across the board, pleasing both long time fans as well as new recruits. Brimming with a medley of influences not easily categorizable, the group’s current drumming duo and three vocalist roster places them in a metal sub genre setting them apart from many of their peers. “Lots of people like to stick to one kind of music,” guitarist/vocalist Philip Cope explains, “and even with the underground, lots of people segregate themselves into small little categories and place lots of imaginary rules on these scenes. We just like playing heavy music and we’ve always liked playing it regardless of what is popular or trendy”. Guitarist/vocalist Laura Pleasants adds. “It’s most rewarding for us to try and push our own boundaries of what we can to do with our music and hopefully, in the end, offer something that is at least original.” Currently KYLESA has taken to the road with their mighty Georgian neighbours Mastodon for a North American tour that will end mid-May.
