The son of the legendary singer-songwriter Paul Simon, Harper Simon, made his singing debut at the age of 4 accompanying his dad for the classic Bingo on an episode of Sesame Street. I’m glad to report that his musical style has evolved since. Although there’s definitely some vocal similarities between father and son, Harper’s undeniably his own artist, proof of which can be found on his eponymous debut album. On a route to self discovery, Simon started his journey in Tennessee, his mother’s birthplace as he mentions in his song by the same name, and surrounded himself with an amazing team of musicians from the 60s and 70s. Taking that material first to L.A. then to New York, he brought in some other familiar faces like Sean Lennon and The Bird and The Bee’s Inara George. The result of this cross-country multi-generational effort is a timeless piece with felt purpose, “Someday you’ll find out who you are, Someday you’ll be more than just a shooting star”.
