Atreyu had their way with a frantic, fired up Metropolis crowd using their signature brand of metalcore to keep the entire crowd at their beck and call. When they asked for jumping, fist pumping, or clapping, the crowd complied almost in unison within seconds, like a hardcore game of Simon Says. This mass choreography was just one form of expression for the feverish crowd. A giant circle pit formed during When Two Are One that just about matched the speed step-for-step of the shredding guitars. And when Atreyu played one of their new tracks Gallows, the wall-to-wall jumping must have left a few dents in the floor. But if the animated crowd was impressive, the band took it one step further. Drummer and clean vocalist, Brandon Saller, multitasked impressively live, executing the drums while singing the hooks flawlessly to the point where I thought a vocal track was being played behind the band. And during tracks like audience-favorite Falling Down, guitarists Dan Jacobs and Travis Miguel layered solos so well that the overlapping bends and slides gave you goose bumps. Personal best of the night went to heavy hitter Ex’s and Oh’s with both vocalists hitting all the eye-watering high notes and beastly guitars making sure my ears would still be ringing a couple of days later. Overall, both band and crowd put a stomp on Metropolis, making for one hell of a show.
