How could you resist finding out more about a group who’s Band Members’ section on their MySpace quotes “in alphabetical order; adam, darren, michael, sean. we are older than ghostbusters 2. we are younger than ghostbusters”? Well, it got my attention. We Were Promised Jetpacks got their big break when they were discovered by FatCat Records through labelmates Frightened Rabbit’s MySpace Friend Space. Just as their aforementioned friends, WWPJ are Glaswegians, but unlike them these high school buddies really vary it up musically creating pieces that have a common feel, but retain a considerable individuality. On These Four Walls, the outfit’s debut record, there’s quite the mix to be found: mellower acoustic tracks like This Is My House, This Is My Home, more up-tempo jaunty tunes such as Quiet Little Voices or a trippy spaced out piece with music coming in as crashing waves over a woman’s voice repeating a numeral sequence in A Half Built House.
