“Nothing is ever finished”. “Bright lights in New York”. “Move on me”. “Let me know when we get there, if we get there”. These phrases may seem stark in this form, but in context as an integral part of Fink’s songs, they become profound and captivating. These word sequences among others are repeated over an alternating melodic foundation of acoustic guitar or piano and rendered through Fin Greenall’s deep bluesy voice. For a period of his life, Fin forwent his love of guitar for techno beats, which is how he grabbed the interest of famed UK electronic label Ninja Tune. After gaining a following as a trip-hop artist, the UK native surprised a good many by returning to his original roots. On the album Sort of Revolution, the born again singer-songwriter makes use of his electronic vocabulary but sticks mostly to his acoustic side, ultimately creating an intimate and hypnotic tone.
