Label Head Suggests Personal Issues Clause For Artists

10.22.09

Former Island Records big wig Marc Marot, turned CEO of Sports Entertainment Group UK, has proposed a “self-harming” clause as a much needed addition to artist contracts. According to Marot the clause would allow the label to intervene in the event of personal issues including drug addiction, anorexia or depression. This clause, according to Marot, will make for a more solid relationship between artists and their labels, allowing for a safety net if the artist should personally wonder astray. Marot is quoted saying, “As an industry, the music industry is pathetic compared to other industries,” as he plans on including the clause in all signed contracts from here on out. Hey I have an idea… Maybe the record industry can stop pretending they give two shits about anything other than their bank account and sales sheets. A clause used as a safety net to protect the artist and their relations with the label?! Horse shit… It’s an even shorter leash to assure increased sales along with an affirmed strong hold on the artists that bring home the bacon. Pssst… Marc… You helped release U2′s Joshua Tree. Did you think the boys were popping PEZ and drinking apple juice during that ride? NEXT!!!
