FROM THE CORNER comes...

Wale

09.30.09

Washington D.C. has never been celebrated as a hot bed for hip hop, but perhaps that’s all about to change with the newest sensation of the genre, Wale, surfacing from the area. Olubowale Victor Akintimehin’s popularity has been on the rise since the release of his first mixtape Paint A Picture back in 2005. This offering, along with other singles, got tons of radio play in the neighboring states, making the buzz around the artist go up a few notches on the decibel chart – no doubt what lead Mark Ronson to offer him a spot on his European tour and a production deal with his own Allido Records. Now on his 5th mixtape, Back to the Feature, Wale has mastered his unique style characterized by underlying layers of D.C.’s go-go scene. With a little help from his friends, notably Lady Gaga in his latest video Chillin, as well as his stint in the 2009 MTV VMA’s house band, he has his path pretty much laid out for him… and in all likelihood, there’s a big fat Pot of Gold at the end. Keep an eye out for his much anticipated first official release Attention Deficit, set to drop in early November this year.
