Pauly Shore @ Club Soda – 09.09.09

Pauly Shore

In the 90s you couldn’t turn on the television high and not somehow stumble upon Pauly Shore. He’s to stoners what The Price Is Right is to sick people; always there for you in your time of need. He played Stoney Brown in Encino Man, Crawl in Son in Law; he was In The Army Now as Bones Conway and took dense to a new level as Bud Macintosh in the sparkling cinematic “genius” of Bio-Dome. But I bet you forgot that he did stand up comedy, didn’t you? Born to Mitzi Shore, the lady responsible for the fame of Hollywood’s legendary laugh spot known as The Comedy Store, and comedian father Sammy Shore, Pauly Shore draws a fair amount of stage material from the memories of having your parents take part in all night parties and finding Richard Pryor in your living room as the California sun slowly rises. So does Pauly still have it on stage? Hell yes. Just not if you were on the hunt for Dane Cook-esque material. Shore is to the point, fairly nasty, slightly burnt out and a cup of used tea that’s steeped to perfection. A great show it is not, but then again were we expecting “greatness”? This is Pauly Shore, so as far as I’m concerned, a few dick jokes and some grating voices and I’m happy as a pig in shit. Ladies & gentlemen Pauly Shore is not dead, he is very much alive and well. My only complaint would be the amount of time he actually spent on stage… But you be the judge. A $30 ticket for a 30 minute set?
