Cory Smoot, guitarist for the alien rock band GWAR, was found dead today on the group’s tour bus. While the exact cause of death is not known, Smoot, known better by his stage name Flattus Maximus, was found dead as the band was preparing the cross the border into Canada while on tour and the news seems to have come as a complete shock to his fellow band members. Dave Brockie issued a statement stating “At this point we are just dealing with the loss of our dear friend and brother, one of the most talented guitar players in metal today. We ask that our fans and the media be respectful of our request for privacy for those that have suffered this terrible loss.” Brockie also said a full statement would be released shortly, perhaps with more information about the cause of death. Smoot had been the lead guitarist for the band since 2002. He was 34-years-old.
