Os Mutantes Returns After 35 Years

06.18.09

The Brazilian psychedelic rock outfit Os Mutantes, meaning The Mutants in Portuguese, not only reformed in 2006 but have recently announced a brand new effort, dubbed Haih, coming down the pipe on September 7th 2009. This marks the band’s first release in 35 years, a distant follow up if you will to 1974’s Tudo Foi Feito Pelo Sol. Os Mutantes has influenced many of today’s artists such as David Byrne, Sepultura, Pat Fear of White Flag, and Nirvana’s front man Kurt Cobain has even expressed respect for the rock outfit, having written a letter to Arnold Baptista in 1993 requesting that the band reunite. In regards to the record, Sergio Dias Baptista is quoted saying, “Living the conception and birth of this album was the most intense experience, for it was as if time has ceased to exist, and I was bouncing from life to life, decades through decades, revisiting myself as a 16 year-old boy playing guitar and feeling so free and indestructible.”
