The double platinum Denver foursome The Fray is looking for a second wave of fame that they may not see with their new self-titled sophomore record. The production is top notch and pales in no way to their debut How To Save A Life in respect of quality. Creativity and evolution however are aspects that don’t seem to be synonymous with references to this album. Each song sounds worked and catered to fit radio formatting and therefore lacks the artistic direction that would otherwise give it weight. Getting the negativity out of the way we can concentrate a little bit on the consistent catchy nature of The Fray’s tracks. The tearjerker ditties are plentiful and are sure to appear in another top television series as How To Save a Life appeared on the all to popular Grey’s Anatomy. If you’re looking for a new love child, this disk could be considered the product of a torrid love affair between John Mayer and Coldplay. Don’t purchase this recording with the expectation of hearing mind blowing arrangements, rather enter with the frame of mind that emotional balladic piano rock never killed anyone, in fact The Fray doesn’t do it half bad.
