The Tallest Man On Earth – The Wild Hunt

The Tallest Man On Earth - The Wild Hunt

The golden fields, the blue skies, and the lonely highways stretch out at the feet of Kristian Matsson, The Tallest Man On Earth. Sopping of folk-tradition, this curiously Swedish storyteller sings of a Thousand Ways, dreams, saviors and sins in The Wild Hunt. He comes “down the hills” with a slightly pinched twang (I tend to prefer a deep rasp), tweaking the strings of his guitar. The album is his second, a pastoral collection of melodies and austere in nature. Fans of this folk musician will enjoy an unfussy formula of easy-to-follow lyrics that touch the very heart, A Lion’s Heart. It is not so much a wild hunt as a chasing away of burdens. You can almost see Matsson sitting on a wooden stool on a dusty stage somewhere, someplace, as we all sit around drinking to his tall tales. You can smell the dirt on our hands and the sun’s stroke on the top of our heads as we all dream of being the King Of Spain. And our new found smiles will hunt the Burden Of Tomorrow. And for that lingering moment, we could be Kids On The Run, and The Tallest Man On Earth would lead the way. At least that’s the way I see and smell it, a rustic escape disguised as an album. And even though the clouds will undoubtedly roll in, just as our protagonist croons, “let them go”.  We’ll find strength in the hunt.
