Yeasayer – Odd Blood

Yeasayer - Odd Blood

An experiment can go awry, but Brooklyn’s Yeasayer prove once again that they are masters of the lab. Sure, they are only on the second notch of their discography belt, but Odd Blood is a musical consummation. From the jungle stimuli of The Children, the oozing pop of Madder Red to the rubber band trickling falls of I Remember, it is once again multifaceted Middle-East-psych-snap-gospel, a term once dubbed by members Anand Wilder, Chris Keating and Ira Wolf Tuton. An album cloaked with synth, heavy loops, samples, and not to mention the vox sequence of Keating, it is well developed with treats for everybody. I was pretty much won over by the track Ambling Alp where we can all relate to needing a kick in the arse from time to time. And at other points of the listening experience, I couldn’t help but feel that I was immersed in a video game, but then again that could just be Yeasayer working their psych-voodoo on my cognizance in the wee hours of the morning. It may not be sing-along fun or stadium royalty music, but for fans of MGMT and the likes, the ten tracks of Odd Blood (give or take a few) will be stuck in your head.

simply ONE of the masses
