Melissa Auf der Maur @ Lion d’Or – 11.01.08

11.07.08

Melissa Auf der Maur

Montreal’s red headed rock vixen unfolded a performance that made people proud to be from our fair city.Taking the stage cloaked in her riding hood and backed by the power of her Holy Trinity, Auf der Maur took us through her themed event filled with rock based tracks and captivating film rolling throughout the set. We’ve seen her rock out since she first pushed play at the well-known Montreal watering hole Bifteck, as a 19-year-old dj. This is a different Melissa from anything we’ve seen, whether it be 15 years ago or last month. MAdM was newly alive with the tunes that rolled off her lips and fingers. She had a brand of vigor in her that the elated crowd was eager to experience over and over again. Having been involved in many projects and spending much time away from her original stomping grounds Melissa had this to say to a local paper, “I tried to move back full-time,” she said of Montreal. “But I didn’t fully connect. I couldn’t make a new connection there. Everything was eclipsed by so much history.” So perhaps the glowing Melissa has reinvented herself for a new chapter, a new fold in the accomplishment book of Auf der Maur. A great woman from a thriving city, with great success and talent, bringing something new to the table whenever her name is uttered. With sincerity in my eyes and pride in my heart we salute Ms. Auf der Maur, for she will be forever woven into the fabric of our coveted music scene. A toast to MAdM.
